武蔵野美術大学卒業。在学中からゲーム会社（KAZe Net co.,Ltd.)でデザイナーとして働く。卒業後に就職し数社を経て'96年に株式会社セガに入社。
これまでに多数のタイトルの商品開発に参加。
代表作は「ソニック・アドベンチャー」、「サンバ DE アミーゴ」シリーズなど。「サンバ～」は第４回日本ゲーム大賞のサウンドゲーム部門にノミネートされた。
ゲームのデザイナーとしての傍らで「ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ」や「サンバDEアミーゴ」の公式のイラストレーションも描いたりゲームのサウンド・トラックのジャケットのイラストやデザイン、グッズのデザインや監修なども行っていた。
ソニックが初めて三次元のゲームで表現される際、そのデザインをデファインする影響を与えた人物として英語圏ではSatoshi Okano、中国では岗野聪として知られている。
2006年に大所帯ではなく1人でキャラクターに纏わる仕事をする為にフリーランスとなる。
2011年株式会社Studio Okanotion（スタジオ・オカノーション）設立。
会社の名前は岡野の概念という造語の英語にした。ペンネームは在職時のイントラネットのハンドルネームのOKNをそのまま使っている。
キャラクターデザインからアートでも活動中。
アートディレクター、イラストレーター、キャラクターデザイナー、プランナー、アニメーション 監督、アニメーター、グラフィックデザイナー、コンセプトアーティストなど様々な役割をこなす。
キャラクターブランドライセンス協会会員。
Graduated from Musashino Art University. Worked as a designer at a game company, KAZe Net co.,Ltd., while I was still in school. After graduation, I had worked for several companies before joining SEGA Corporation in 1996.
Participated in the product development of many titles so far.
My representative works include "Sonic Adventure" and "Samba de Amigo" series. “Samba…" was nominated for the sound game category of the 4th Japan Game Awards.
In addition to working as a game designer, I also drew official illustrations for "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Samba de Amigo", illustrated and designed the game's soundtrack jackets, and designed and supervised the production of merchandise.
When Sonic is first represented in a three-dimensional game, I was known in the English-speaking countries as Satoshi Okano, and in China as 聪岗野, as the person who was influential in defining the design.
In 2006, I started working as a freelance to work on characters by myself instead of a large group.
In 2011, I established Studio Okanotion Co., Ltd.
The name of the company was coined from the English word “Okano's Concept”. My pen name is OKN, which was my intranet screen name when I was working.
Now working in character design and 'art'.
Taking many roles as an art director, illustrator, character designer, planner, animation director, animator, graphic designer, concept artist, and so on.
